Last week, Prospective Conservative MP for Hazel Grove, Annesley Abercorn had a tour of the new Media City construction site in Salford which is being built by Bovis. Met City is going to house large television studios including some new facilities for BBC North. There is also going to me an integrated transport link to Media City, a hotel, shops, bars, cafes, restaurants and a new Media Studies department of Salford University.

Annesley said, ”I thoroughly enjoyed seeing for myself how the construction of Media City is progressing. This is going to mark an exciting moment in British television with new state of the art studios and production centres for the BBC and other broadcasters. It will bring jobs, enterprise and energy to the local area – many of whom will be employed from Stockport, Hazel Grove and the surrounding area.” He added, ”Media City will be important for the economy of the North West, Stockport and Hael Grove. I can’t wait to revisit the site when it is completed.”

He talked to AS and A2 level students about how and why he entered politics and became more involved with the Conservative Party.

Annesley said, ”It was a true delight to be able to speak to the students at Marple Sixth Form College. I enjoyed talking to them about my journey into politics and particularly enjoyed answering the questions that followed on a wide variety of political issues ranging from the economy to the Conservative Party itself to Europe. The questions put to me were most thoughtful and intelligently constructed – I think we may well have some future MPs in Marple!”

It is very important to engage more young people in politics and Annesley was very happy as a local political representative to be able to spend some time with these students who are very much the future of our country.

On Tuesday 16th February 2010, Coronation Street star William Roache who plays ‘Ken Barlow’ visited Hazel Grove in support of its Prospective Conservative MP, Annesley Abercorn.

William who is a well known supporter of the Conservative Party went to the Hazel Grove Conservative Club to support Annesley’s bid to become the next Member of Parliament for the area and to officially launch the new Conservative Campaign Office for the constituency.

William cut a ribbon that went across the entrance to the new office and was greeted by various key local Party activists. As he cut the ribbon, William said, ”I wish Hazel Grove Conservatives every success in the coming elections.” He added, ”It’s a great pleasure to be here supporting Annesley and his campaign. He will make a fine MP and is a very warm individual who empathises with people’s concerns.”

Prospective Conservative MP for Hazel Grove said, ”It is a great honour for me to welcome Bill to Hazel Grove. It feels a bit strange as he is such a big star and is someone who appeared on my Television screen so often as I was growing up and even now every time I tune in to watch Coronation Street; I am so thrilled that he is giving support to my campaign. I think that someone like William really helps make politics more accessible and adds some excitement and sparkle to the local campaign!”

William was very generous with his time, posed for photographs and signed autographs for many a fan at the Conservative Club.

Annesley met with representatives from The Royal British Legion at the recent Conservative party conference in Manchester where he was presented with a copy of the Legion’s manifesto for the next general election.

The manifesto sets out priorities for the next Government to improve conditions for the British Armed Forces past and present and their families. It encourages MPs and prospective parliamentary candidates (PPCs) to “do their bit” for Service Personnel and their families, the bereaved, veterans and dependants.

Kevin Shinkwin, the Legion’s Head of Public Affairs, said, “We’re really grateful to Annesley Abercorn for making the time to meet with us and listen to our concerns. Our message to every candidate standing at the general election is very simple: ‘It’s time to do your bit’.

“The entire Armed Forces family needs the support of politicians from all parties,” he added. “Our manifesto outlines practical ways the next government can help, and we hope all the parties will give it serious consideration”.

Prospective MP, Annesley Abercorn said, “I was delighted to meet with The Royal British Legion. They have an important role to play in highlighting the needs of the whole Armed Forces family. I have pledged to do my bit and would encourage everyone to do the same by visiting the general election manifesto website – www.timetodoyourbit.org.uk – to find out more.”

He addressed local supporters at the High Lane Conservative Club. Owen said, ”Hazel Grove was a Conservative seat until 1997 and there is every chance we can win it back at the forthcoming General Election.”

After his lunch at High Lane, Prospective MP, Annesley Abercorn took him to the Allied Bakeries Factory in Bredbury for a tour where they make Kingsmill Bread.

Annesley Abercorn said,

“I am delighted to welcome Owen Paterson to Hazel Grove. He will make an outstanding Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. He works so hard in his Shadow role by going to Belfast every week. He has made so many connections and alliances in Northern Ireland resulting in the first Conservative Party representative there since 1918. I am grateful to him for speaking to our supporters and learning about the fascinating workings of the Kingsmill Bread Factory which I am proud to say is within the Hazel Grove constituency. I am particularly thankful for the fresh bread they gave us straight off the production line which was incredibly soft and tasty!”.

On Thursday, David Cameron visited the Hazel Grove constituency in support of its Prospective Conservative MP, Annesley Abercorn. He was greeted by Conservative activists at High Lane Conservative Club who invited him to climb on board Annesley’s battle bus – a 1960s Routemaster double decker.

David Cameron officially launched the bus and cut a ribbon that went across the entrance to the open rear platform vehicle. He said, ”I’m supporting Annesley, he’s a first class candidate who’ll work really hard for local people, it’s great to be here supporting his campaign and he has this great campaign bus. He’s going to be using that to get out and meet with local people to listen to their issues, their problems, to work well for them, in this coming election. He will make an excellent MP.” He then went inside the lower deck and had a chat with local Conservative activists.

Prospective Conservative MP for Hazel Grove said, ”Its a tremendous honour for me to welcome David to Hazel Grove. I have been meeting thousands of people on doorsteps locally over the last 18 months and there is a real desire for change in Hazel Grove and for our country. The only alternative to this Labour Government is David Cameron’s Conservatives. David’s support for my campaign demonstrates that the Conservative Party is determined for Hazel Grove to return to the Conservatives once again at the next General Election.’
Annesley’s bus was popular with local people. A lot of them were waving at Annesley as he was hanging off the open rear platform vehicle as it paraded slowly down the A6. Annesley said, ”Regardless of people’s political viewpoint, loads of residents enjoyed seeing my Routemaster go down the streets of Hazel Grove. The bus always brings a smile to people’s faces – young and old because it is just such a distinctive British icon like Big Ben or the old red telephone box.”

Annesley said,”The Hazel Grove Carnival is a great example of the local community pulling together to put on such a fantastic event. I thoroughly enjoyed it and met lots of people who put a lot of effort into making the day a huge success.” Annesley later crowned the Hazel Grove Carnival Queens; he paid tribute to the Carnival Queens ‘who did Hazel Grove proud with such elegance and grace’ and the organisers for their .hard work and commitment. Annesley added, ”I was glad that Hazel Grove Conservatives could give a small contribution to a wonderful day.”
He said, ‘‘I will not charge the taxpayer a penny for a second home despite the contituency being nearly 200 miles away from Westminster. I can afford to pay for it myself by having some basic accommodation locally like where I live at the moment in Romiley.’’

Annesley said, ‘If elected as the MP for Hazel Grove, I will not claim a penny from the Communications Allowance and call for it to be scrapped’’ Already that represents a saving of over £30,000 per year if Annesley gets elected as MP for Hazel Grove. No claims for a second home and no claims from the Communications Allowance*

Annesley added ‘’No furniture, no food, no treats, no communications allowance, no John Lewis. That is my pledge to the people of Hazel Grove if I get elected.’’

*Under House of Commons rules, MPs can claim up to £24,000 per year for a second home and up to £10,000 per year to send out glossy MP newsletters to local people. Annesley will not claim a penny from these allowances if elected.

Conservative Policy Chief, Oliver Letwin visited Romiley Primary School recently with prospective Conservative MP for Hazel Grove, Annesley Abercorn. There there was a great reception here: Oliver has been here before in fact – during the 2006 local elections, the school was threatened with closure and relocation by the local Lib Dem council in order to cope with increasing pupil numbers. A fantastic Conservative campaign to save the school prevailed. When Oliver last came, he was refused entry because it was election time. The school now has an impressive brand new extension to cope with the increasing pupil numbers. Most importantly, the school has not had to move and the local community around it is in tact.

Later, Oliver and Annesley visited the Furniture Station near Hazel Grove train station who specialises in rejuvenating donated second-hand furniture and kitchen appliances for people on low incomes. A whole house can be furnished for less than £40 and lads there do a really good and worthwhile job.
