Shadow Transport Secretary Visits Hazel Grove

The Conservative Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, Theresa Villiers MP met Prospective Conservative MP for Hazel Grove – Annesley Abercorn on Tuesday 19th August 2008 in Hazel Grove

She came to look at traffic levels on the A6 by the Rising Sun pub junction. This is an issue which has been the source of much concern over many years. Prospective Conservative MP for Hazel Grove – Annesley Abercorn said, ”I am delighted that Theresa Villiers MP visited Hazel Grove in her capacity as Shadow Transport Secretary. The building of the A555 relief road was started under a Conservative government but progress was halted in 1997 when the Labour administration took over. I wanted Theresa to see how the high levels of congestion on the A6 are affecting residents’ quality of life through pollution and noise.” He added, “The time has come for action. I recognise the need for a bypass – It would be madness not to complete it.”

Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, Theresa Villiers MP said, ”It is clear that local people feel strongly about the issue. It was very useful to come and see the problem for myself and listen to the concerns of people affected by congestion on the A6. I know that Annesley Abercorn is campaigning very hard for the bypass. He has put his points very well and I shall of course consider this issue very carefully if the Conservatives form the next Government.”
